Express Bus

Broward commuters early Monday boarded the express bus now running between Miramar and Miami for the first time.

Leaving from the Miramar Town Center, the bus makes stops at major Miami-Dade employers such as Jackson Memorial Hospital and the VA Hospital, along with several downtown Miami locations.

Passengers boarding the first early-morning buses Monday said the new service is providing commuters with a new way to save both time and money.

"Traffic is always an issue but this will be a nice and relaxing way to get to work," said Martha Block, 52, as she prepared to board the bus. Block lives in Cooper City and commutes to Jackson hospital daily. "This is fantastic for Broward County, and with gas prices going up, this is the only way to go."

Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief, along with several county transit officials, rode the first bus that left from Miramar Monday. Passengers were also treated to complimentary refreshments, doughnuts and bags filled with local transit pamphlets.

The Miramar express service starts at Miramar Town Center's bus terminal, then travels on Red Road and Florida's Turnpike to the Golden Glades Interchange and then to downtown Miami along the I-95 express lanes. Stops include the Civic Center area plus the Miami-Dade Government Center and the Miami bus terminal.

In the mornings, the first three buses that arrive in downtown Miami from Miramar will return to Miramar without making any stops. In the afternoons, the first three buses that arrive at Miramar Town Center from Miami will return to downtown Miami without making any stops.
