Broward County voters may get the chance to express their point of view on a proposed one penny Transportation Surtax when they go to the polls in November.   Commissioners have requested that ballot language be developed for the 1 Penny surtax earmarked for transportation and transit projects countywide.  Some highlights include twenty-seven miles of light rail, additional buses, new fiber optic cable, improved roads and sidewalks, and enhanced traffic signalization. The one cent sales tax increase is expected to generate $16 billion over thirty years. The proposal also includes the creation of an independent review board to oversee the transportation projects.
