Reflecting on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Shooting

On February 14th, I sat in my office working a normal day. Never did I imagine another mass shooting would occur as Broward had experienced a tragic shooting just 13 months earlier. As County Commissioners, we know that public safety is a tremendous responsibility. As a mother of 3 girls, the safety of my children is paramount for me as they pursue a public education.

How did America get to this point, when human life is not important enough to change screening procedures and deny access to weapons for those with mental health issues? How many more children have to die before this issue is addressed?
