Cases of the Dengue virus have been reported in Broward. Dengue viruses are spread through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is the same types of mosquitoes that spread the Zika virus. They bite day and night so wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when outdoors and spray with insect repellent. These mosquitoes lay eggs near standing water, so make sure your property is free of all standing water, especially in pots, animal bowls and kiddie pools. Symptoms include high fever, rash, muscle and joint pain and in severe cases, serious bleeding and shock. For more info: https://www.cdc.gov/dengue/index.html
