Drivers have been warned. As of January 1st, drivers will be ticketed if caught texting and driving while in school and construction zones. Texting and driving have become so dangerous that people are going off roadways and causing accidents even deaths. The distraction is being compared to ‘drunk drinking’. Two years ago, Florida was ranked second in the nation for having the most distracted drivers. Driver distraction is a rapidly growing problem as the use of cellphones and other technologies continue to advance. Florida Department of Transportation developed the “Put it Down” campaign to eliminate distracted drivers. Will the campaign help or will more laws need to be implemented?
