Since March 15th, millions of Americans have filed for unemployment bringing the total to 33 million. In Broward, more than 52,000 residents have applied for benefits and many are still waiting. Florida’s unemployment system was obviously flawed prior to the coronavirus but was only uncovered when thousands of residents began applying for benefits. The economic fallout to our residents is devasting. Many were already living paycheck-to-paycheck, worrying about paying the rent and feeding their families. Rest assured that Broward will begin to re-open, even though it will be a slow process, we must keep our residents, employees and families safe.
